FROM PRINCIPAL BEERY (also sent via district notification system and via gmail to all students)
I have three quick items of information as we settle in to “the new normal” that will be with us for at least the next month…
All grades in the Jumprope student and parent portal are now complete for the third marking period. I will print and send by mail the Jumprope standards reports that have been previously requested. The Jumprope portal will remain set to the third marking period until this Friday, then it will display the current grading period that began yesterday. If you would like a Jumprope report mailed home and you have not previously requested one, contact me at email@example.com or at 740-763-2711.
Please encourage, support, and require that your student work diligently and consistently to complete the online assignments. Should questions arise in particular areas please have your student seek guidance from their teachers. With at least half of this grading period being completed in the online format, it is imperative your student complete their assignments. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
With the Governor extending the mandated school closures until May 1st, I have no choice but to cancel our 8th grade trip scheduled for this Spring. It breaks my heart to do it, but I must. All families will receive a full refund of money paid. I will work with Mike Hageman, our trip coordinator, and the treasurer’s office to begin the refund process. With the closure we are experiencing, please be patient. We will be mailing refund checks as soon as we possibly can. If you have questions about refunds or special requests, contact me as per above.
In closing, thank you for all you are doing to lovingly support your child through this time. I appreciate, as do our teachers, all your patience and support as we try best to assist your student’s academic growth. We will get through it together!
I hope this message finds all of you well at this time. With the coming weeks and months filled with change and uncertainty, please know as a school community we will do all we can to provide you and your student the caring and support necessary to get through these uncertain times. As we approach next week and the beginning of on-line, distance learning, I wanted to share more information on three topics.
On-Line Learning Begins Monday 3/30
Beginning Monday students will be expected to complete classwork as assigned by their teachers. They should be accessing Google Classroom, teacher websites, and following the instructions sent by their teachers. We were able to lay the groundwork for this on our final day together and our teachers have worked very hard in preparing lessons that students will access through their chromebook. We have no idea how long this mandated school closure will last, so it is imperative that your students dedicate the time and effort necessary to maintain their classwork. As questions arise, please work through our teachers to gain class-specific assistance. If technology needs arise, please contact Ms. Hanson (firstname.lastname@example.org). I believe we have met all needs for computer requests at this time and we are still awaiting some additional hotspots to help with internet access (Mike Kelley is spearheading these efforts).
8th Grade Trip Scheduled for May
We have not yet cancelled our trip at this time. We have until April 19th to decide and I want to wait as long as possible to cancel, while also making sure if we indeed need to cancel, we get all families a full refund of money paid. Until we know more, my approach is to wait and see at this time. Overly optimistic on my part, probably, but I am willing to wait at this time.
If we can assistance with needs at this time, please contact me at 740-763-2711, 740-975-1132, or at email@example.com. We can arrange for food to be picked up or we can deliver if needed. Please let me know how we as a school community can assist.
In closing, please know we will get through these unprecedented times of separation and will be stronger for it. If I can assist in any way with the learning, with food, or with more information please let me know.
