 EARLIER MESSAGE

The purpose of this e-mail is to inform LV students and parents about the way that our normal end-of-quarter and end-of-year grading timelines are going to be impacted in the online learning environment.

Licking Valley Middle School and Licking Valley High School have built in a buffer of time at the end of each quarter since our transition to standards-based learning and grading several years ago. This necessary -- and successful -- strategy has allowed for extended time for students while at the same time creating a deadline that has prompted procrastinators to catch up.

With the end of the quarter, semester and year approaching, teachers are preparing and implementing their final academic assignments, which will have a “due date” of no later than May 15th. After that point, teachers will work with students to turn in overdue work, re-do assignments on which they didn’t demonstrate mastery, and re-submit work.

This ‘buffer’ period after May 15 has added importance in an environment in which circumstances have enhanced existing conditions of inequity among our students. This adds to the fact that we know some students take longer to learn than others.

We will continue to communicate with students who have incomplete work or a need to demonstrate proficiency within standards up through May 20th and May 28th, which are the final deadlines for seniors and 6th-11th graders, respectively.

2020 Fall sports eligibility is based on fourth-quarter 2020 grades.

Please use your access to JumpRope to monitor your child’s standard marks as well as the “Missing Work” tab. Our teachers will be teaching, assessing and giving feedback until the last possible day, as they always do.

Today marks the final day of new instruction here at LVMS!  Are you done…not necessarily!  All assignments are expected to be completed in a satisfactory manner no later than 12 noon on May 28th.  Rest assured that we will continue to communicate with students and parents, provide assistance and feedback, and quite honestly, hound students to get their best work up until 12 noon on 5/28.  Please insist that students continue to communicate with their teachers and work diligently if work is incomplete.  Please let me know how I can assist by contacting me at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> or 740-763-2711.

Material Pick-up/Drop-off
LVMS will be open on the following dates to cleanout lockers, pick-up items (such as track pictures, yearbooks if purchased, 7th grade class t-shirts if purchased, projects in life skills, industrial tech, artwork, medication from the clinic, chromebooks returned from repair) and to drop-off items such as track uniforms, loaner chromebooks, and library books.  So that we can be responsible and follow the health department recommendations, we will open the school for the specific grade-levels on the following dates and times…

  *   6th Grade--Tuesday, May 26th from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.
  *   7th Grade--Wednesday, May 27th from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.
  *   8th Grade--Thursday, May 28th from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.

Many of our teachers and staff will be here on those days to assist and honestly, to see you as we miss all of you. If you are not able to get here during these times or are not comfortable doing so, please contact me at the above contacts and we will arrange another time or I can deliver items home.  I look forward to seeing everyone over the course of those three days.  Take care.
