Novell Messaging

NOTE: This feature is intended for staff use only. DO NOT send messages to
students or allow students to send messages to other students or staff!

On most computers used by our teaching and administration staff we have on option installed for "instant messaging". In the lower right hand corner of your desktop is what is called the System Tray. This shows what operations on your computer are started when you log in and are available for use without having to manually start each one.

One of the icons should be a red N. This represents the Novell software. With your mouse, right click (use the right hand button on the mouse) on the N and the window illustrated at right appears. If you do not have the  N visible in the system tray click here.

Click on NetWare Utilities and another
window appears just to the side.

Click on Send Message,

then To Users…

and finally the Netware Send Message window appears.

The server your computer is attached to will appear in the window. If you wish to send a message to another building click on Show All Servers. Click on the server you wish to send your message to (the district office resides on the LMHS server), a list of people logged into the server appears. You can send a message to anyone who is logged onto the server. Click on the names (you can pick multiple names by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking each name you wish to send a message to), and then enter your message in the Enter message text box just above the list of names. You are limited to about 80 keystrokes for your message. If the person is not logged onto the server you will not be able to use the Novell messaging.
